Days off

Today, I do not have to work! And today, I have practically zero plans! This has not happened in.... a month? Since before I went to Dallas? Who knows. My days off usually consist of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, trying to catch up on life. But today, I have oodles of time to do whatever I want. And I have tomorrow off too! With not a plan, errand, or must-do in sight (well, one birthday dinner with family). I am excited. BUT, of course as things always seem to work out for me, I am sick. Some sort of cold+allergy combination of death that has been plaguing me for the past month. When I got home from Dallas I brought with me with a fever and a sore throat. And I still cannot seem to shake it, which probably has something to do with the fact that I am constantly going and going and going nonstop on a small amount of sleep. Life's busy y'all. I can't decide if it's a cold or allergies whooping my butt, but the fever part is really annoying.

So after crashing last night at 8pm and waking up today at 6:30am (coffee shop habits, y'all), I have been chillin' extra hard on my couch. Aaaand possibly watching the Twilight series in preparation for Breaking Dawn Part 2... Hate all you want, I know it's terrible.

I also recently acquired this bad boy:

You know what that means. HELLA FOOD BLOGGING. The culinary genius behind the blog Smitten Kitchen, Deb, has just come out with her first cook book filled with all kinds of amazing recipes with mouthwatering pictures. The desserts alone you guys. Seriously. Deb is coming to Austin to talk about her badass book this month and my friend Tyler and I are going to see her! SO STOKED! I'm pretty sure she and I will be bff's at first sight. And then I can hang in New York City with her in her little kitchen (little kitchen cooks unite!) and we will bake and laugh and eat wonderful things. Creepy blog crush much? Whatever. So today in my lovely free time today I do believe I'll bust out this book and bake me some yummyness. Because the best cure for sickness is dessert. I'm sure I read that somewhere. It's science.

Oh and this is too good not to share:

My new favorite shirt. Yes, that is t-rex, real upset 'cause he stubbed his toe. So good. The Chisty's always come with gifts (they spoil us rotten), and this weekend Brendon and I were showered with adorable and clever t-shirts from Sarah. She worked at Woot, where they have all kinds of deals online (UH, check out today's deal! In the market for a camera??) and where they make all kinds of awesomeness in t-shirt form. The best part is the descriptions of the products. Worth checking out for the laughs alone. So thank you Sarah for my amazing shirt! Not only is it hilarious and cute, but it's hella soft. Bonus.

Now, excuse me while I delve into the feverish world of baking and vampires. It's just me, my couch, and my kitchen for hours. Love it, even with a fever.

Weekend wrap up, a couple days late

The past two days I have felt like crap. Literally sick. I'm not sure if I got a stomach bug or if my tummy is just being unusually horrid to me, but it has sucked. I'm leaning towards the latter of the two. As if my stomach problems didn't interfere with my life enough; this was seriously over the line. So I guess it is time for another trip to the doctor. HURRAY. Can they just trade out my insides for someone else's? Please?

But on the bright side, while I was feeling real lame there was something on TV to entertain me. The Superbowl! Can I type that legally? We watched it mostly for the commercials, I didn't even know who was playing until the day before. Football is not our thing. The commercials were okay and the game was pretty good I guess. But I thought half time was wonderful. People are giving Madonna a lot of flack for supposedly "lip-synching" but I couldn't tell if she was and that woman knocked it out of the park. She looked great and was highly entertaining. After last years truly terrible performance by the Black Eyed Pea's (how embarrassing that it was in Dallas too!), I was really impressed. Plus apparently M.I.A. flicked the camera off and we thought we heard her say "shit" so yay for stickin' it to the man. HA. I love me some M.I.A., have you seen her new video? I think it's amazing.

Obviously that's how I drive the Xterra down 35 everyday. Two wheels y'all. Really though, can someone teach me how to drive a car like that? I'm intrigued. Also, I'm not 100% sure what swag is, but I think she has it.

Before I started feeling sick this weekend, I squeezed in some good times. Friday night my momma-in-law and my little bro-in-law came up for a wild night at Gatti Land. Even though the place was packed, we had a blast playing games and winning tickets. Deb got really good at the motorcycle racing game. Like 1st place good. I was seriously impressed. Brendon tried it, got like 7th, then declared that the game was broken. Of course.

Excuse the plethora of phone pics. It's just so handy!

How cute is this? Mother and son, racing the night away.

Mr. H and I played big game hunter a few times. I'm terrible at it and he's great. He kept wanting to play games with me that he knew he'd win. Someone is just a tad competitive I think.

And remember over the summer when I said I was going to build an easel?

CHECK THIS PUPPY OUT. So legit. With lots of help from my daddio (who is the grand master of projects, I get it from him you guys), we finally made it happen. We put this beauty together Saturday. This thing is a monster. It's huge. So huge it is still at my dad's house because it wouldn't fit in my car. And everything fits in my car. It is so seriously awesome you guys. Hands down the coolest easel ever. Bask in it's radiance.

For some size comparison, here I am standing next to it. It dwarfs me and I'm a fairly tall girl. I'm about 5'8", so that things gotta be 7+ feet tall. It's beautiful. More details to come when it actually makes it to my apartment. NO idea where it's going to go. Probably the living room. So feng shui (is that still a thing?).

And while I was down in NB building the easel, I got to see my momma as well for a little bit (although at that point I was a sleepy zombie). Family time is so good! If I had seen my sister I would have gotten the whole family into the weekend!

All in all, I'd say it was a pretty dang good weekend. The good parts definitely outweighed the bad.

Of course, of course.

(Brendon that title is for you. And Mike. And all you pharmacy kids.)

Greetings from the land of kleenex and sudafed, where looking like a hot mess is impossible to avoid!

Okay people, it happened. It was only a matter of time, I knew it was coming. I got sick. BOO! Brendon was sick with a nasty cold all last week (I think it was last week, my days are all messed up), but I wasn't worried. I was sure my superior immune system (joke) would keep my safe. Of course, not the case. If Brendon gets sick, I get sick. And I usually get it way worse. OR I'm just a huge baby and can't handle it as well. I woke up a couple days ago feelin' not so hot, yesterday I felt real lame, and today I feel straight up terrible. And of course, today is a beautiful blustery wintery-ish day outside and I can't enjoy it properly. That cold windy walk to work this morning at 5 am was intense to say the least. All I could think about was my bed, downing some cold meds, and becoming dead to the world until I felt better. Needless to say I definitely crawled under the covers asap when I got home with a sweet Sophie kitty who is always the best sick nurse. She's in my lap right now as I type. How do animals know? (I'm going to pretend that it isn't cold and she wasn't using me for my heat.)

So forgive my blogging hiatus for a few days while I recuperate. I haven't even taken my Halloween stuff down and switched to Thanksgiving decor. You KNOW I'm feeling bad when anything holiday related is postponed. Wish me a swift recovery y'all, being sick sucks.

Sick and tired

Jeeze I am beat. Between my body attempting to commit mutiny and consistently getting up before the butt crack of dawn, I am physically and mentally exhausted. I love me some morning shifts but damn, I can't wait to sleep in this weekend. I open the store tomorrow and then it's sleep fest 2011 for the next few days.

Actually before I can get my sleep on, I have a doctors appointment after work tomorrow. Have I told you that I'm not a huge fan of doctors? Seriously y'all. I'm nervous. It's a new doctor and I have to give my schpeel on what's wrong with me. Again. And Brendon is not going with me. He usually accompanies me to the doctor because I'm a weenie and he's a sweetheart. He's also good at saying what I wont. He says I have a tendency to make things seem like not a big deal when they are. So tomorrow I've got to man up and tell this new doc whats up. And hopefully she'll fix me, or at least make an honest effort. And be nice to me. My last stomach specialist seemed to not give an eff about what was wrong with me, which was not cool because she was not cheap. In an effort to save moola I'm just seeing a family doctor tomorrow. I don't really have high hopes. I've been on a gazillion medicines and had bunches of tests, I seem to be unfixable. Where's Dr. House when you need him? But, let's be optimistic. Maybe she'll have the answer. Cross your fingers for me tomorrow y'all, I'm tired of feeling like poo. I want to have a normal functioning body, what's that like?

Also, I have a feeling I'm not going to see my husband much until December. Pharmacy school = your whole life. Buh. This week has been rough. I need to keep thinking positive.

SoCo, book reports, and puke

I have been a negligent blogger! I was hoping to be posting everyday, or at least every other, but I have not been diligent in my blogging. That's okay though because there's only like 6 people who read this and I married one of them.

This weekend my daddio and my step momma came up to visit. We had a night on the town in Austin! We went over to South Congress (they call it SoCo, how cute is that?) where's there are a ton of shops, restaurants, and one of those food trailer parks, Lynne was excited about those. It was really neat! We went to Uncommon Objects which is a very well organized antique store. It is also very over priced. Denton's Antique Mall on the square probably had the same stuff for half the price, but it was a hot unorganized mess. I love antique stores!

I apologize for the terrible grainy quality, I iphoned it up. There was a time in my life when I used to keep an actual camera on me at all times. I should get back into that.

At the food trailer park! You can see down town in the background, it was such a pretty night. And not too unbearably hot either. Check out those people hula hoopin' on the left, they were selling hula hoops for $4. I feel like that's a little steep for hula hoops covered in duct tape.

Lynne is the cupcake queen so of course we had to check out the cupcake truck. They were pretty good, but super rich and I was stuffed from dinner so I could barely get through half of mine.

I love seeing my family! Even though we're so much closer it doesn't happen as often as I'd like. Gas is killer!

I've been a reading machine recently. I've read Brave New World, 1984, Wuthering Heights, and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I'm just starting the Girl who Played with Fire. Book review time!

Brave New World and 1984 were very similar, you guys know the premise. They were both depressing and a little creepy to see how accurate they ended up especially since they were written so long ago. 1984 was actually a bit of a tough read after all my usual easy reading (Harry Potter...). It felt good to exercise the old brain a bit. Wuthering Heights was legit, that's such a good story! And it has a happy ending which was very welcomed after the previous two. I took a break from classic literature and read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo next. Brendon's mom let us borrow the series, the movie is coming out this December (yay Daniel Craig!) so I figured I better read it before I saw the movie. It was good, nice and long, but a lot more background info than plot. But it was an enjoyable read and it sucked me in. How nerdy am I?! I love me some books.

Okay, so today. My boss called me at 6:20 this morning asking me if I could come in to work and I was pretty much like "hell yeah!" because mo' hours = mo' money. I get there, have a breakfast taco, make some drinks, and then I feel like death. Super nauseous. I end up puking at work twice (sorry if that's gross), and getting sick at work is the PITS man. So I spent the last half of my shift feeling like I was going to die but tried to save some face and keep my cool in front of customers. And coworkers. My sweet boss let me go home early, but that drive home was intense. I didn't know if I was going to make it! But I did, obviously, and crashed on the couch and ate some rice crispies dry out of the box. Dry cereal seems like my go-to for feeling pukey. I'm feeling better now, just a little weak. I guess maybe it was the taco? And I just needed to get it out of my system? Regardless it sucked and getting sick at work is super embarrassing. The end.

Sick husband and the 4th

Poor Brendon is a sicky little baby. He's got a cough and is feeling crappy. I'm reeeeally hoping it's not pneumonia! That would be a nightmare, I keep telling myself: no way is our luck that bad. Poor baby, he's still sleeping and he has to work tonight. Booooo, I wish I could make him feel better! I miss my perky husband, he never gets sick. I'm usually the one who catches everything, guess his good luck could only go so far. In the mean time I get to return the favor and get to take care of him.

I forgot to talk (type?) about the 4th of July! Because I'm lazy, there are zero pictures. Brendon had to work during the day so we got a late start to our festivities. We headed down to my dad's around 6 and had some family time and some very American cuisine; hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, fruit salad, and peach pie with my absolute favorite ice cream, Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla (seriously, the greatest ice cream on the planet). So yummy! Unfortunately we are in a nasty, nasty drought so we were unable to blow up some of my dad's firework stash and they canceled all the shows around San Antonio and Austin except for some in Kyle, Roundrock, and maybe Kerrville. Lucky for us, by the time we were driving back up to Austin and passing through Kyle, the fireworks show had began! So we pulled over on the access road with a billion other people and watched them from afar. Not as great as seeing fireworks up close, but at least we got to see some! I LOVE FIREWORKS! Growing up we had always done our own at home, perks of living outside city limits, so I had only gone to my first "professional" firework show (that I'm aware of) a couple years ago at UNT. I was seriously impressed. Last year we saw some in Coppell with our friends. Although doing your own fireworks is fun, the professional ones are way cooler to look at. Plus no burning your fingers off. Hoping that next year will be a little wetter and more shows to chose from!

In other news, it's still insanely hot.

Pneumonia sucks.

So when I said before that I just had a virus, not the case. Long story short it turns out I have pneumonia, but after like 10 days it's almost over! As soon as I got the right antibiotics, they immediately started knocking it out. I still feel weird and not so hot, but tons better than I did before and the fever is gone. Seriously, this week was probably the sickest I've been in my life, ever. For sure the longest. And really, who gets pneumonia? IN THE SUMMER? Weirdo's like me I guess. Brendon has been so wonderful taking care of me! And so worried too, I thought he was going to lose his cool when he found out I had pneumonia. Such a sweetie! Love that man.

And even though I still felt kinda blah, this weekend was really great. Z and his friend James came down to Austin so we got to see them and eat at this wacky burger place where they had an item called "Z's Frito Pie" (obviously we got it). I wish we could have seen them more while they were here, but I felt like poo. But it was so good to see Z! He's moving to Hawaii next month to help the health department prepare for zombie attacks (jk. maybe). We are going to miss him soooo much, but we will definitely be visiting! A lot!

Yesterday we celebrated father's day with my Daddio. He got lots of beer, fishing lures, and pool floaties. What more could a man ask for? It was a wonderfully relaxing day with some very yummy food. So nice to be able to spend a father's day actually with my dad. It's been years. So here's cheers to you Daddy! Thank you for always being there for me and giving me so much support in everything I do, I wouldn't be who I am without it. And thank you for being so much fun and a weirdo! I love you! :)

When we came home from my dad's last night I gave Brendon a haircut. This is the second time I've done this, the first was years ago, and I'm not really sure how it turned out, hopefully it looks okay! Pretty sure it was a bit too short in the front haha. Haven't seen it dry yet. I tried to peek when he left for work but I was sleepy and my eyes weren't quite awake yet. Speaking of being awake, I don't sleep for crap since I've been sick. We go to bed around midnight, I fall asleep around 1:30, then wake up again around 3:30 and then fall asleep again around 6. It's a mess.

Oh and I don't think it rains in South Texas anymore. It's been sunny every single day since we moved here. EVERYDAY. I like the sun and all but damn, I miss my wild North Texas storms! Or at least a rain shower. There's rain on the forecast this week, so we're crossing our fingers. Everything is so dry, fires everywhere. We need some moisture asap.

Sick of being sick

Somehow or another I got some kind of bug and have been ill for the past few days. AGAIN. Wasn't I sick with a stomach bug a few weeks ago? What is this nonsense?? I've got this nasty cough and a fever I can't seem to shake. No fun! The worst of it happened Saturday night. My fever was out of control and I was freezing for half the night then sweating like crazy the other half. I probably got 2 hours of sleep, and of course Brendon was passed out like a baby. All I kept thinking is, I wish my mom was here to take care of me and tell me everything would be okay. Moms make everything better. Last night wasn't nearly as bad, but I'm just ready to feel normal again. Good thing I'm unemployed and can just chill out and rest. Haha.

BUT, I do have interviews this week! I know that doesn't mean I'll get the jobs, but at least there are interviews! People are taking their sweet time getting back to me. I guess it's been less than two weeks, but still. Let me know either way people! I'm just whiny because I'm bored. And broke. And sick. Whomp whomp.

Oh and this is a tad bit eww-y but hilarious all the same. So I'm sharing.
Yesterday morning (the morning after my terrible night of sickness), I was chilling on the couch, playing on my phone, trying to cool off, and one of the cats (not sure who, I was attacked from behind) leaped onto my head and then turned around and leaped off. I was shocked to say the least. I was kinda slumped down so I think they couldn't see me and got a surprise when they tried to tear across the couch (not cool anyway) so they peaced out as soon as they realized they landed on my head. At first I was like BAHAHA did that really happen, but then there was blood on my face. It's a small cut but it's gross and hooked shaped and pretty deep. Ew. Not cute. So if I wasn't the crazy cat lady already, I think this makes me one for sure.
