Somehow or another I got some kind of bug and have been ill for the past few days. AGAIN. Wasn't I sick with a stomach bug a few weeks ago? What is this nonsense?? I've got this nasty cough and a fever I can't seem to shake. No fun! The worst of it happened Saturday night. My fever was out of control and I was freezing for half the night then sweating like crazy the other half. I probably got 2 hours of sleep, and of course Brendon was passed out like a baby. All I kept thinking is, I wish my mom was here to take care of me and tell me everything would be okay. Moms make everything better. Last night wasn't nearly as bad, but I'm just ready to feel normal again. Good thing I'm unemployed and can just chill out and rest. Haha.
BUT, I do have interviews this week! I know that doesn't mean I'll get the jobs, but at least there are interviews! People are taking their sweet time getting back to me. I guess it's been less than two weeks, but still. Let me know either way people! I'm just whiny because I'm bored. And broke. And sick. Whomp whomp.
Oh and this is a tad bit eww-y but hilarious all the same. So I'm sharing.
Yesterday morning (the morning after my terrible night of sickness), I was chilling on the couch, playing on my phone, trying to cool off, and one of the cats (not sure who, I was attacked from behind) leaped onto my head and then turned around and leaped off. I was shocked to say the least. I was kinda slumped down so I think they couldn't see me and got a surprise when they tried to tear across the couch (not cool anyway) so they peaced out as soon as they realized they landed on my head. At first I was like BAHAHA did that really happen, but then there was blood on my face. It's a small cut but it's gross and hooked shaped and pretty deep. Ew. Not cute. So if I wasn't the crazy cat lady already, I think this makes me one for sure.

Observations on A-town (can I call it that? or is that Atlanta? whatever):
There are a lot of yuppies and a lot of homeless people.
Local Austin-ites are weird and kinda hostile towards "transplants". Job postings will say "Locals only, no transplants!" Whaaa?? Isn't most everyone a transplant? Little unwelcoming if you ask me.
The traffic is not nearly as bad as I thought. Even when there is traffic it doesn't take long to get anywhere because...
Everything is so close together! And there is so much of everything everywhere! There are seriously like five HEB's in less than a 10 min drive around us.
HEB's! SO good to be able to shop at HEB again after 5 years of Walmart. They bag your groceries! And take them to your car! Take notes wally world. HEB, get your butt into Denton and wreck shop.
Bicyclists here are nutso brave! I was driving through downtown yesterday and they are everywhere, weaving in and out of traffic. I was behind a girl riding down a hill with no hands. Hands in the air making wave motions. For a while. I'm all for biking but dang, I wouldn't trust the cars around me that much.
Tons of parks around us! I wish it wasn't so unbelievably hot or we'd go explore. We used to go McKinney Falls State Park all the time as kids (I think that's where my sister learned how to ride a bike!), and now it's like 10 minutes away. Cool down Texas so we can enjoy the great outdoors. Whoa I just remembered that I had a dream last night that a cold front came through. People were wearing jackets! If only haha, I can dream right?
More observations to come I'm sure, and I leave you with this:

Why am I wearing sunglasses? Who knows. It was clearly all Greg's idea.

Boiling in Austin
Still no luck on finding a job. I've applied at a TON of places but haven't heard from anyone. It's been less than a week but I'm freaking out. Mainly because I have absolutely nothing to do all day except hang out with the cats and look for jobs while Brendon is at work. BORING. Being unemployed would be a lot more fun if I knew some people around here to help me fill all this free time. Hopefully work will come my way soon before I lose my mind. I don't know how housewives do it (both boredom-wise and financially).
And it is really really hot. Like 100 degrees hot. What's up with that? It's the beginning of June and it's that hot already? Whaaaa? I guess we are 200 miles farther south, but still. Maybe I block out how hot it gets in the summer but I never seem prepared and every summer seems hotter. I literally dread going outside during the day. I am not a fan of the heat at all, much rather be cold. Getting into my car is seriously deadly. It's like an oven in there, and my poor ac cannot keep up. Phew, Texas you are too much.
We had a surprise visitor the other day! Remember when I said there was a weird noise in the ac vent? WELL, that morning (while I was still snoozin') Brendon had heard something weird in the guest shower and lo and behold, there was a squirrel leg poking out of what I guess used to be the pipe for an old shower head. A SQUIRREL LEG. He sprayed it with febreeze (HA) and then taped it up. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THAT? So we're assuming that the creepy noise I heard in the ac was also our furry friend. Creepy to say the least. This apartment gets more charming everyday. If a squirrel gets loose in here, I will just take the cats and peace out. That's insane.

blah blah happily married blah blah
How cute is this boy?? I think he seriously gets more attractive everyday. He's so aging well already. ;)We kind of blew through our one month marker of marriage with all the crazy moving. But let me tell you, it's been a good month, regardless of all the stress. Happy days upon happy days. People kept asking me if it felt any different to be married, and it does but it doesn't. We're still the same people and really not much has changed, but every now and then I think of him being my husband and I have a little giddy fit of happiness. And we share a last name now! Changing mine was a pain, and I debated staying a Brooks, but I'm glad I changed it. He's the last Hogan in his family so it's like we've got a whole new legacy to live out. As much as I love being a Brooks, there are A LOT of us. Just a couple of us Hogan's.
Side note: the AC vent thing is making super creepy clicking noises. The cats are sitting below it very intrigued, and I'm staring at it like a gremlin is about to pop out. This apartment... it's going drive me insane.

New home
Well, we're here! We're all moved in to our new place and almost all unpacked. Moving was rough but way easier than I thought it would be. Brendon is a macho man, he did so much work! He's so strong too! I whined about single boxes while he moved mattresses and dryers. Such a man. Especially in this heat! It is SO hot. And there are mosquitoes everywhere. I have like 24 bites on my legs.
Our new apartment is okay. As I think I previously said, our apartment in Denton was pretty amazing so this is going to take some getting used to. It's not bad by any means, just different. It's very long, our bedroom and the office are separated by the living room instead of being across the hall like they used to be. And the walls are WHITE! Ahhh! I loved our caramel colored walls and miss them dearly. This stark white is just so "apartmenty". I donno, I'm weird. And there are no fixtures on the bedroom or office ceiling. Like NONE. No light. No fan. SO STRANGE. We bought a fan that they are supposed to install sometime this month (???) in our bedroom. We'll have a lovely cord running down the wall to an outlet, but at least we'll have light and air movement. Okay, enough complaining. We're happy to be here I swear!
Brendon started working today. He's floating around at different stores until June 19th and then he's going to help open the Dripping Springs CVS (baller!). I envy him and sort of regret my decision to officially quit the hoot and not transfer to one down here. I mean it needed to happen badly, but finding a job is stressful! Especially when you're in a new city and you know where nothing is. Buh. But Craig's list has been helping me out, I've submitted my resume to a bunch of places. Hopefully I'll hear back soon! Until then I'm unemployed and freaking out haha.
On the bright side of things, we are going to my mom's tonight. SO COOL that we can just roll on down to NB and see family whenever we want and then come back home. In the same day. I can't believe we're so close! Family makes everything better. :)
