Hair hair hair
Before and after, clearly. The last time I cut my hair, I told my self I was going to go a year without cutting it. What a fool, I can never make it much more than eight months. My ends were getting slightly disgusting and my hair was like, seriously, long. Scary hippie long. Unmanageable and heavy and the hottest mess. So I got it cut, brought back the bangs, and obviously I lost my mind and dyed it. I haven't dyed my hair since 2008. I stopped dying it because my hair was fried and I wanted to see what my natural hair color really was. I was a redhead through high school, went blonde for a bit in college, and then rocked the uber dark almost black for a while.
Turns out I really like my natural hair color and have rocked it for almost 5 years, but I was itching to mix it up. So I went ombre and had my ends lightened and then got real crazy and put two little purple streaks in it. These purple babies wont last for long, but I've always wanted purple in my hair and I love it! The only reason I went with this look is that since the roots are natural, I don't have to dye it again any time soon, if ever. And I'm not going to lie, I miss my natural hippie hair a little already. But this is really fun and hair is just hair and it will grow back. Plus, if there's anything to make you look younger it is purple in your hair. And I'm all for looking younger.
I got my hair cut and dyed by Damien at Birds Barbershop on South Congress. It took over three hours (I have too much hair!) and he was a damn rockstar, and I love my hair. If you need color work done, go see Damien.
Previous hair cuts, in which my hand is perpetually glued to my hip and I'm always wearing blue?

Cutting of the hair
However much I may not want to, I still need a hair cut now and then. It's been about a hair cut every 8 months since we moved to Austin (cut 1 and cut 2, I have a thing for blue shirts). Any longer and my hair starts to look seriously ragged and dragging a brush through it starts to hurt. So today I mosied on down to Birds Barbershop and chopped off some dead weight to avoid looking like a dirty hippie.
Hey look, it's that tiny camera!
Before and after. My stylist said she took off an inch and a half but looking at this picture, length-wise, you can't really tell. She did put in hella layers, I feel like my head weighs at least 3 pounds lighter. It was basically almost all one length before, aside from my grown out bangs. It was kind of nice because when I braided it a million pieces didn't stick out everywhere, but it also was very very heavy. And the ends were horrendous and would create this giant frizzy tangled mess since all the ends were chillin' together. Now I've got all kinds of layers and it feels super short to me. I know it doesn't look much shorter but it feels way shorter. And so instantly I never want to cut my hair again, as I always feel after a hair cut. Obviously that won't happen. I'll cut it again in 8 months or so.
My hair looks, feels, and is so much healthier and homegirl did an excellent job. If you need a haircut and are in Austin, I recommend Birds. It's super laid back and you get a complimentary Shiner! I went in the morning so I didn't have a beer, but I imagine it's nice. Beer usually is.
And for laughs on this lovely Friday (seriously, the weather is great, go outside Texans), here's this:
Boom, new facebook profile picture. Someone take that tiny camera away from me.

Trimmin' my ends
After about putting it off for about 9 months, I finally bit the bullet and got my hair cut. A little.
My mom and I got our hair did together yesterday, we both got a trim (and a head massage, it was HEAVENLY). I was super nervous that I'd get too much cut off, but it turned out just fine and my hair looks and feels loads healthier. And I got some fancy Aveda stuff for my ends so hopefully that will help with future damage control. They were looking pretty dang bushy before.
So here we go, my monster hair before:
And tamed monster hair after:
I freaked out a little when my stylist told me she wanted to cut off two inches. I seriously gasped. But it needed to happen, my ends were lookin' rough. And when it's straightened you can't really tell it's any shorter (bonus! not that I ever style my hair...). I also got my thick ass hair thinned out a bit (because it was getting unruly and massive and it is summer and it is HOT) and my bangs (that were originally straight across) cut so they blend into my the rest of my hair. Fun stuff!
I intend on not cutting it again for a while. Because as much as I like having smooth, freshly cut hair, I really like having my wild hair too and I'm still trying to grow it to waist length. Just another 12 inches or so, no big deal.

Excuse my "I just woke up 10 minutes ago" puffy face.

The bangs are back
Before and after!
After getting my hair cut I had lunch with my mama at China Kitchen. If you're from NB, you know what's up. Yum. Then I hit up a couple thrift stores in NB searching for pyrex but I had no luck. On my way back to Austin I stopped and visited my sister and her boyfriend at her place in San Marcos. They have a snake! I freaked out about it at first but it's actually a pretty chill snake. She had it around her neck at one point, that chick's brave. It was kinda weird but kinda cool. And a little bit cute. I touched it like twice.
The snake!
Once I got back into Austin I hit up another thrift store and this time had some luck! I found a nice piece of pyrex and this cool silver bowl I'm going to use to put on my night stand to keep jewelry and other random objects in. I got both of these for $7.50!
Snowflakes! So cute! And it's in great condition!
I had to scrub this bad boy down a bunch, it was tarnished as hell. Now it's nice and shiny!
And that my dears, was my day off so far in a nutshell. I'm about to go pick up the husband from school and then we'll have some dinner. It's been a pretty dang good day off if you ask me!
