When we first moved to Austin, I started collecting Pyrex. Growing up we had some really pretty pieces that we used all the time (and my mom still does), and now that I was all grown up (joke, obviously) I needed my own! Luckily Austin is full of thrift stores, which is the best (cheapest) place to buy Pyrex. We live super close to a bunch, one is seriously within walking distance and we visit almost weekly. There's not always Pyrex (mostly there's junk, dirty junk, and more junk), but when we find some it's always so exciting. It's like adding a new little member to our growing Pyrex family! And the best part is that we use a lot of it all the time!
Serving bowls, casseroles of all sizes (look at that tiny pink one! It's my favorite, so cute!), mixing bowls, cups, and little plates, all with the cutest little patterns. Most of them are in great shape too! Pyrex is so tough. For instance, while I was getting this nonsense together for a picture I dropped that big red casserole on the ground and I screamed and it just bounced (although it was on the carpet). This stuff is decades old, but it all still serves and bakes like champions! I think the green guy in the middle is probably in the worst condition, but who cares! There is always love for Pyrex in my home!
On our latest thrifting expedition, we found three saucers that had a pattern that matched some Pyrex cups I had perfectly, but there was no Pyrex logo on the bottom. It felt a little light for Pyrex, but I bought them anyway because they were like a dollar something and I couldn't pass up the matching pattern. After a little research I found out that they are actually "Corelle" plates from the 70's-80's that Pyrex made matching "compatible" items (such as cups) to go with. So not quite Pyrex but close enough! I saw a set of dinner plates that with a suspiciously Pyrex-eqsue pattern around the rim but no stamp on the bottom, I bet that's what they were! Shoulda bought 'em.
It probably bores the whole world but I love these little guys! They make me happy. And my food looks so much better sitting in them.

Pyrex and blood
DANG look at these beauties! I snagged both of these today. We were picking up take out at this Chinese place near us (so classy, I know), and there's a thrift store next door so I ran in to check if there was any potential pyrex steals. I had been there before and they didn't have anything so I wasn't optimistic, but these two babies were there waiting for me! Brendon actually spotted them first, I was so proud. Two big ol' casserole dishes with lids! Woodland and Autumn Harvest patterns which are perfect for fall! It was a match made in heaven. Too bad I'm not cooking for Thanksgiving this year, I'd totally utilize the hell out of these.
I went to the doctor again yesterday and they stole some blood from me. I can't handle needles or blood. At all. Every time I tell myself that I'm not going to be a weenie but I always lose my cool. I freaked out the poor phlebotomist (such a fancy word), she kept asking if I was going to be okay. It's just such a terrible feeling, I feel like I can't breathe, I'm going to pass out/combust into a million pieces, and I want to run for my life. Plus I learned this time that I go pale which Brendon said is why the lady was freaking out. It's totally embarrassing, I'm such a wuss. But I got this cool thing on my arm that looked like I donated blood. Psyche! The only way I'd be able to donate blood is if I were unconscious.

The bangs are back
Before and after!
After getting my hair cut I had lunch with my mama at China Kitchen. If you're from NB, you know what's up. Yum. Then I hit up a couple thrift stores in NB searching for pyrex but I had no luck. On my way back to Austin I stopped and visited my sister and her boyfriend at her place in San Marcos. They have a snake! I freaked out about it at first but it's actually a pretty chill snake. She had it around her neck at one point, that chick's brave. It was kinda weird but kinda cool. And a little bit cute. I touched it like twice.
The snake!
Once I got back into Austin I hit up another thrift store and this time had some luck! I found a nice piece of pyrex and this cool silver bowl I'm going to use to put on my night stand to keep jewelry and other random objects in. I got both of these for $7.50!
Snowflakes! So cute! And it's in great condition!
I had to scrub this bad boy down a bunch, it was tarnished as hell. Now it's nice and shiny!
And that my dears, was my day off so far in a nutshell. I'm about to go pick up the husband from school and then we'll have some dinner. It's been a pretty dang good day off if you ask me!

Thrifting in Austin
Okay, so you know Austin. It's weird, it's "hip", and retro is in. Naturally there are a ton of vintage/thrift stores everywhere. We ventured out to a few pretty cool ones today. I've recently became interested in collecting old pyrex, so I've been on the look out for places that might carry it.
First we went to Hogwild. They have a bunch of vintage furniture, homegoods, and some fabulous clothing from the 50's-70's. This is where I found one of the cutest and sweetest dresses ever. It was beautiful. It was white with thin vertical baby blue embroidered stripes, I should have taken a picture. It was the perfect length, not too short but not so long it looked frumpy. The perfect summer dress. I was IN love with this dress. And it fit me perfectly... except in my.. chest area. I couldn't get the zipper to shut and I was in danger of busting off the adorable cute oversized button it had in the front. I was seriously devastated and had a little minor melt down in the dressing room. I thought maaaybe I could alter it to fit, but there was no way. So if there is some tiny little lady out there in need of a fabulously fun wardrobe addition, this dress is waiting for you, go get it. Or I will buy it and just stare at it in my closet. My dream dress not fitting got me a little down, but I did find these FANTASTIC shoes:
They are the best. Little baby oxfords! I don't know a lot about shoes but I think they're vintage and they're Salvatore Ferragamo. And they say "Made in Italy" on them. Fancy! They are incredibly comfortable (like the softest leather I've ever felt on shoes) and fit me like a glove. And they say if the shoe fits... obviously wear that nonsense. The only problem with them is the insole is not attached so it comes out every time you take them off. I feel like that is easily fixable (super glue?) and if you have any ideas on the best way to do so, please share! I am sooo excited for fall to come so I can wear these and not have my feet sweat to death. Until then, I may or may not be wearing them around the house.
Next we went to Ermine Vintage which was more 80's-90's styling. I'm not really a fan of that kind of stuff, but it was definitely very entertaining to look at. They had some crazy dresses in there, puffed sleeves was only the beginning.
Our last stop, and original destination, was Room Service Vintage. This place was super cool. It was a lot like the first place but way bigger with way more stuff. They had a TON of awesome furniture (think velvet everything) that was in great shape. They also had pyrex! Mostly overpriced and damaged pyrex, but they had a couple pieces that were in good shape. I got the cutest little bowl. We probably paid too much for it, but it was calling my name.
Brendon got a little tie clip while on our expedition. We found a bunch of neat ones (like one with a wellsfargo wagon on it!) but they were all gold and Brendon just can't pull off gold. A lot of people can't pull of gold actually. Including me. I think he may have been a little down about just getting a tie clip. There were tons of cool guys shoes but he has sasquatch feet so none of them seemed to be his size. Plus I made him look at pyrex. Poor baby! Next time we'll find more boy things. I did see him eying a bunch of vintage Playboys...

Look at those stripes! Too cute. Yes I am calling a bowl cute. Don't judge me. I foresee eating guacamole out of this little baby.
On the way home Brendon and I discussed this new interest of mine (he's not too thrilled) and decided that our best bet would be garage and estate sales. Pyrex is a pretty common household staple in America and I'm out to find it on the cheap. Antique and vintage stores tend to mark it up like crazy because it's collectable, I saw some seriously gnarly bowls at that place for like $25. Get outa here with that! Garage/estate sales are probably our best bet. People who just want to get rid of their stuff and quick, I'm coming for your pyrex!
